| Background | Caring for people with delirium in intensive care units is a challenge not only for attending physicians and nursing staff. Family members and loved ones are also confronted with challenging behaviors such as hyperactivity, aggression, or hallucinations. Feelings of anxiety and depressive episodes are frequently observed among family members of people with delirium in various hospital settings. |
| Objective | In accordance with the UK Medical Research Council’s recommendations for the development and evaluation of complex interventions, the goal is to develop a multi-component intervention that addresses the support needs of family members. |
| Methods | The design of the intervention is based on the development, feasibility, and piloting phases of the MRC framework. A scoping review is currently being conducted to provide an overview of published studies on family members of people with delirium in the hospital setting. |
